Quick take

The widest measurement range in the partner's catalog — 5 to 6500 fps means this is the chronograph that covers your PCP and your .22 LR and your centerfire from the same bench setup. Infrared sensor, ±0.5% test error, tripod-mountable (tripod not included). Comes with spare connecting rod and spare light bar. Aluminum and stainless steel construction. 17 orders. Note: works best in low-light conditions; bright outdoor sun requires a light shield.

The Hunt & Live take

Why this chronograph earns the pick

The 5-6500 fps range is the unique value proposition. The Orcair caps at 3280 fps; the FX Pocket V2 caps at 1250 fps. Neither will read a supersonic .22 LR (1300-1700 fps), a .223 (2700+ fps), or a 6.5 Creedmoor (2800+ fps). This chrono reads all of them, plus your sub-1000 fps PCP, from the same setup.

For the bench shooter who owns multiple rifles across calibers and wants one chronograph instead of three, this is the right pick. The accuracy spec (±0.5%) is competitive with optical chronographs at the same price point, and the included spare connecting rod and light bar mean a stray pellet hit doesn’t end your chrono session.

What it pairs with

  • Any rifle, any caliber — universal compatibility
  • Bench rest sessions — needs a stable platform; the tabletop format means you set it up between the shooter and the target
  • Indoor or low-light outdoor — infrared sensor performs best when ambient light is controlled
  • A tripod — not included; standard photo/video tripod thread works fine

Honest trade-offs

No app connectivity. Unlike the Orcair or FX Pocket V2, this chrono doesn’t pair with a phone. Readings are on the unit’s 3-button display only. Means no shot-string analysis, no standard deviation calculation, no exportable data — just velocity and energy on the device.

Requires a tripod. The chrono itself ships without a tripod; you’ll need a separate photo tripod or shooting tripod to set it up. Budget another $20-50 for one.

Outdoor in bright sun requires a light shield. The manufacturer notes infrared sensors are confused by ambient sunlight. For outdoor use in midday sun, you need a light shield (sold separately or DIY). For indoor or covered range use, no issue.

Stray pellet hits damage the unit. The notes warn “in order to avert the rebound of the projectile after hitting the machine and causing damage” — if you miss the gate and hit the chrono body, you can damage it. The included spare rod and light bar partially address this; the lesson is to align carefully.

Only 2 left at time of writing. This is a small-volume product at the partner; restocks are irregular.

0% buyer rating on the partner page is a display artifact — 17 orders with no written reviews. The product class is well-understood; the rating display is misleading.
