The Hunt & Live take
Why this pump earns the pick
The 4-stage design is the upgrade reason over the 3-stage. Each compression stage shortens the maximum force needed per stroke; the 4th stage on this pump trades a few extra strokes for a meaningfully lower peak force at the top of the pressure curve (which is where the 3-stage pump becomes a workout). For most adult shooters this means less shoulder strain on the last 50 strokes of a fill, which is exactly when fatigue makes you sloppy with technique.
The included rebuild kit and multi-tool are the give-away that this is the partner’s tier-1 pump — they expect you to keep it for years, and they ship you the parts to do the periodic O-ring rebuild it’ll need every 1,000-2,000 fills. The glow-in-the-dark gauge is the small surprise feature that turns out to matter when you’re filling at dawn or dusk in the field.
What it pairs with
- Snowpeak Lynx Gen 3 — 130cc reservoir, ~200 strokes from empty
- Air Venturi Avenger — similar reservoir size, similar stroke count
- Snowpeak M60B with bottle — larger 500cc bottle = 600-800 strokes from empty. A tank refill is faster, but the pump is your backup
- Any PCP — universal M10×1 thread on the included fill probe fits standard PCP fill ports
The included hose filter is the critical part you can’t skip — never connect a hand pump to a regulated PCP without an oil/water filter inline, or the regulator will eventually fail from contamination.
Honest trade-offs
Hand-pumping is exercise. No pump turns a 200-stroke session into a 2-minute job. If you’re filling more than once a week, the Tuxing 3L tank + fill station pays for itself in shoulder relief within 6 months.
Periodic silicone lubrication is required — every 50-100 fills, apply silicone oil or silicone grease to the O-rings. Skipping this leads to premature seal wear, which leads to lost pressure and harder pumping. The partner stocks silicone oil in their PCP accessories category; pick a bottle up with the pump order.
