The stock hoses on most hand pumps and fill stations are roughly 50-60cm — long enough for the pump-and-rifle to sit on a bench together, short enough to be annoying when you want the pump on the floor and the rifle on a benchrest, or vice versa. Honest trade-offs
Longer hose = more dead volume. Every centimetre of hose holds a small volume of air at the fill pressure that gets vented when you disconnect. A 100cm hose holds roughly twice the dead air of a 50cm hose, meaning you lose slightly more air per disconnect. For a hand pump that’s irrelevant (you’re refilling from a free source). For a carbon fiber tank where every fill costs you tank pressure, the smaller stock hose is the more efficient choice if you don’t actually need the reach.
