The Hunt & Live take

Why this filter earns the pick

Air compressed by hand or by a low-end electric compressor contains moisture and trace oil. When that air enters your rifle’s regulator at 4500 psi and then expands as the regulator drops pressure to the firing chamber, the moisture freezes and the oil deposits on the regulator seat. The regulator’s set pressure drifts, the seat eventually fails, and you’re paying $80-150 for a regulator rebuild.

An inline oil-water filter strips both before they reach the regulator. At $20-40 for the filter, it’s the cheapest insurance you can buy against a $150 regulator failure — and the partner’s 37 orders with 100% positive reviews back the build quality.

The 4-stage and 3-stage hand pumps both ship with a small in-line filter on the hose — so if you bought either of those pumps, you may not need this. But if you bought a hand pump elsewhere without a filter, or you’re running a small/budget electric compressor, this is the critical add-on. If you’ve ever had a regulator drift or fail on a humid summer fill session, you know why this matters.

What it pairs with

  • Any hand pump without integrated filtration — the critical add-on
  • Yong Heng electric compressor and other budget compressors that come without filtration
  • The 3-Stage Hand Pump or 4-Stage Hand Pump as a secondary in-line filter for high-humidity environments where the integrated filter isn’t enough

Configuration choice at checkout

  • Filter only — for buyers who already have hose and connectors
  • With 20″ fill hose + one female QC — the standard pump-to-rifle setup with female quick-connect at the rifle side
  • With fill hose + male/female QC — the in-line extension setup, with male QC on one end and female on the other for chaining with other hoses

Maintenance

The 3 spare filter cotton inserts are the consumable — replace the cotton when it visibly darkens (typically every 50-100 fills depending on humidity). When the cotton is saturated with moisture/oil, the filter stops working — air passes through without filtration. Replace the cotton, don’t ignore it.

The optional moisture beads add a second stage of moisture absorption. In humid climates or high-volume fill setups, the beads are worth the extra spend. In dry climates with light use, the cotton alone is fine.

Honest trade-offs

Only 2 left in stock at time of writing. This is a critical accessory — order with your pump if both show in stock.

The filter is in-line, not in the pump. Means you have an extra connection point in the air path between pump and rifle. That’s a small pressure-drop and a small additional failure point (the O-rings). For the protection against regulator contamination, it’s worth it — but verify all connectors are tight before every fill session.
