Slings, Cases & Carry
Move your PCP without dinging it. Pick the case by length, not by brand — measure the rifle including any installed bottle.
The quick answer
A PCP that never leaves the closet stays mint condition. A PCP that gets carried to the woods, the backyard pest spot, the range, and the cabin gets the dings that come with use. A case is the cheap insurance against dings becoming damage.
For most PCP owners, two carry items cover the use cases: a case sized for your rifle’s longest configuration (rifle + bottle + bipod + scope), and a daypack or duffel for ammo and accessories. Add a sling if your rifle doesn’t already have studs.
The partner’s three Snowpeak-branded cases (GB01, GB02, GB03) are sized for specific rifles in their catalog — GB01 fits the Mercury (29.5″), GB02 fits the M60B and Max 1 (34.5″), and GB03 fits the longest competition-tier rifles (47″). For non-Snowpeak rifles, measure first and pick by length.
When shopping
What to look for in a slings, cases & carry.
- ✓Measure your rifle including the bottle A 28″ case fits a stripped rifle. With a 500cc carbon bottle threaded on, that same rifle may be 32-34″. Measure muzzle to butt with everything you'll carry installed — bottle, scope, bipod folded — and pick a case with 2″ extra clearance. The partner's Snowpeak GB01 (29.5×10″) fits the Mercury; GB02 (34.5×12″) fits the M60B and Max 1; GB03 (47×10″) fits longer rifles like the JTS Airacuda PRS Max.
- ✓Soft vs hard case Soft cases (polyester, nylon, padded) are lighter, cheaper, and pack small when not in use. Hard cases (not in this catalog) protect against drops and crushing in vehicle transport. For a PCP that lives in a closet between weekend sessions, soft is fine; for one that travels in a truck bed under other gear, hard is the better choice (look elsewhere — the partner doesn't currently stock hard cases).
- ✓Waterproof matters more than you think The Snowpeak GB01 and GB03 are polyester waterproof — meaning a sudden rain shower at the range or a wet vehicle floor doesn't soak your rifle. The unbranded polyester soft case is not specifically rated waterproof. For Canadian shooters in any weather, the waterproof rating is worth the small price premium.
- ✓Sling studs vs Picatinny — both work Traditional wood-stocked PCPs use sling studs screwed into the stock. Modern Picatinny-chassis rifles use QD-cup attachments on the rail. The partner sells sling studs and swivels separately if you need to add them to a stock that doesn't have them, plus a camo rifle sling that ships with optional studs/swivels at checkout.
- ✓A daypack with rifle attachment is the off-grid carry choice If you're walking to a stand or a backyard pest deterrence spot, a daypack with sling attachment points beats a separate gun case. The Allen Timber Raider 22L daypack at the partner is sized for a day's worth of pellets, water, and accessories with the PCP slung on top. Not as protective as a case, but actually usable for hunting.
