The Hunt & Live take
Why this duffel earns the pick
A duffel is the bulk-storage carry in the hunting kit. Not a daypack (too big for a 4-hour outing), not a rifle case (doesn’t protect a rifle), but the right size for everything else: pellets in bulk tins, cleaning kit, chronograph in its case, magazines, multi-tool, spare batteries, an extra fleece, a thermos, a snack kit. The kind of stuff you carry to the field and back without needing to access it constantly.
Allen Company is the default American hunting accessories brand — affordable, durable, widely available. The Sportsman’s Duffel is their entry-level full-camo bag, sized at a useful 12.2L with one big main compartment so you don’t fight zippers and pockets when you’re packing.
The heavy-duty handles + removable shoulder strap are the two-mode carry: grab-and-go by the handles for short distances, sling over the shoulder for longer carries. The water-resistant exterior matters because this bag is going to ride in truck beds and on wet ground — and the NextCamo pattern at least visually blends with timber or brush if you’re carrying it through the woods.
What it pairs with
- Any PCP rifle case for the rifle itself (the duffel carries the accessories)
- Allen Timber Raider Daypack — the smaller field-carry alternative
- 600D Nylon MOLLE pouch — clip pouches inside or onto handles for organized small-item carry
- Snowpeak GB02 case + this duffel = complete carry kit for an M60B + accessories
- Multi-day cabin trips, range days, or any time you need bulk gear capacity
Honest trade-offs
Single-compartment design. No internal organizers. If you want pellet tins separated from greasy tools separated from clothing, you’ll need internal pouches (the 600D MOLLE pouch is one option) or a different bag.
Water-resistant, not waterproof. Survives weather and wet ground for typical use. Don’t submerge it.
12.2L is on the smaller side of the duffel category. For multi-rifle or extended-trip carry, you’d want 30-40L. This bag is sized for “day-trip-plus” rather than “expedition.”
