The Hunt & Live take
Why this kit earns the pick
The Patchworm Pocket Field Kit is the default first cleaning purchase for any new PCP owner — 190 verified orders make it the best-selling cleaning kit in the partner’s catalog. The reason is structural: PCPs don’t burn powder, so they don’t need solvent-and-brush cleaning. They need occasional dry-patch bore cleaning to remove lead build-up, and a pull-through system is the right tool for that.
Patchworm replaces the traditional cleaning rod with a weighted nylon string. You drop the string through the breech, attach a patch to the end at the muzzle, and pull it through. The patch picks up lead, dust, and minor fouling on the way out. No rod, no risk of crown damage, no inserting a rigid rod into a barrel where it can scratch the rifling.
The universal-caliber design is the second smart choice. Instead of buying a separate kit for every rifle, the 8 color-coded cleaning heads cover any caliber from .177 air rifles to 12-gauge shotguns. One kit, every gun you own.
The fits-in-a-pocket form factor matters more than it sounds. Field cleaning happens at the range, in a hunting cabin, in a truck — places where a full-size cleaning kit is too bulky. The Patchworm zips into a small nylon pouch and lives in your range bag.
Per the partner page: “The SAFE bore cleaner — for all calibers.”
What it pairs with
- Any PCP rifle for bore cleaning
- Ballistol 4oz — the wet patch solvent already used in the included wet patches
- Patchworm 7/8″ patches (500 pieces) — replacement patches when the included supply runs out
- Patchworm 1-1/4″ patches (500 pieces) — for calibers larger than .30
- Patchworm Hard Case version — if you want field-grade protection for the kit
Honest trade-offs
Pull-through cleaning isn’t as deep as solvent-and-brush. For PCPs this doesn’t matter — there’s no copper fouling to scrub out. For centerfire rifles, you may want a rod cleaning kit in addition for periodic deep cleans.
Universal kit isn’t optimized for any one caliber. The dedicated .22/.25 Pocket Small Caliber Kit or .177 Field Kit ships with caliber-matched patches and is slightly cheaper if you only have one caliber.
Canada shipping deal is buried. The $14 CAD shipping refund for envelope shipping isn’t automatic — you have to email Wes at support@airgunarcheryfun.ca after ordering. Worth the extra step.
Patches will run out. The included supply is “dozens” — enough for a year of casual use. Pick up the 500-piece refill when you order the kit so you don’t run out mid-session.
