The Hunt & Live take
Why these felts earn the pick
VFG (Visco-Flex Gelenkstecker, the German felt-pellet brand) is the European standard for felt bore cleaning. The felts are denser than cotton patches — meaning each pass picks up more lead, more debris, and leaves the bore cleaner. The upgrade is real: shooters report fewer passes per cleaning session and a measurably more consistent shot string after a felt clean vs a cotton clean.
The 53-order verified buyer count with 5/5 rating is the partner-catalog confirmation. Among the maintenance products, VFG felts are the consistent “upgrade refill” recommendation.
The right workflow is:
- Wet pass: Soak a felt in Ballistol, attach to Patchworm string, pull through. The Ballistol loosens lead build-up.
- Dry pass with patches: Pull cotton patches through to absorb the dirty Ballistol.
- Final dry felt: A clean dry felt picks up any remaining residue and leaves the bore truly clean.
That’s the 3-pass workflow for a properly-cleaned PCP bore. For most adult PCPs in .22 or .25, this means a complete cleaning takes about 5 minutes.
What it pairs with
- Patchworm Pocket Field Kit — universal kit, felts work for .22 / .25 passes
- Patchworm .22 / .25 Pocket Kit — felts work directly with the .22/.25 line
- Ballistol 4oz — the wet-pass solvent
- Patchworm 7/8″ patches (500 pieces) — for the middle dry-patch pass
- Any .22 or .25 caliber PCP — see the .22/.25 kit page for the full rifle list
Honest trade-offs
.177 felts have no hole — extra step required. If you want to clean a .177 bore with felts, you’ll need to punch a hole in the felt manually or buy the VFG 4.5mm rod attachment (sold separately). For most .177 PCP owners, sticking with cotton patches is the simpler choice.
Not compatible with all calibers. This refill is .22 and .25 only. For .30 cal and bigger bores, use 1-1/4″ cotton patches instead.
Felts cost more per piece than cotton patches. The trade is fewer passes for a cleaner bore — usually worth it for serious shooters, possibly unnecessary for casual plinkers.
