Quick take

The .25 caliber hunting pellet for shooters who own a .25 PCP for a reason — usually medium-pest control (raccoons, groundhogs) or small game. At 28.24gr it's heavier than the standard JSB Exact King 25.39gr, designed for the energy budget of typical .25 PCPs (35-50 ft-lbs). The H&N hollow point geometry expands on soft tissue but holds together against bone. 100% positive on 19 orders.

The Hunt & Live take

Why this pellet earns the pick

Most people buy a .25 PCP because they want to hunt with it. The .25 caliber is the upper end of pellet hunting — enough energy for raccoons, groundhogs, larger pest species, and clean small-game dispatch. To get the energy transfer that justifies the bigger caliber, you want a hollow point. The Baracuda Hunter Extreme is the dedicated .25 hunting pellet in H&N’s lineup.

The 28.24gr weight is tuned for the 35-50 ft-lb power range that covers most .25 PCPs. The heavier weight matters for hunting: it carries more energy at distance than a lighter pellet, and the hollow point cavity is sized to expand reliably at the velocities .25 PCPs produce (typically 800-900 fps).

The H&N alloy is the right pick over JSB Hades .25 for hunting where you might catch bone — H&N’s harder alloy keeps the hollow cavity from collapsing on impact, so the expansion you get is the expansion you wanted. For pure soft tissue, JSB’s softer Hades alloy expands more dramatically but can fail on bone strikes.

What rifles it pairs with

  • Snowpeak Airacuda .25 — sweet spot pairing
  • Air Venturi Avenger .25 at maximum tune
  • Snowpeak M60B .25 — magnum class, the heavy pellet stabilizes well
  • Kral Puncher Jumbo Pro .25 — same answer
  • FX Maverick .25 in moderate power — same answer

When to use it / when not to

Use it for: raccoon, groundhog, rabbit, squirrel — anything where you want clean dispatch with energy transfer instead of pencil-poking a hole. Backyard pest control, agricultural pest control, small-game hunting.

Skip it for: paper accuracy testing (use JSB Exact King — the domed shape is genuinely more accurate at distance), low-volume plinking (overkill), or 60+ ft-lb .25 PCPs where the heavier H&N Baracuda 30.86gr is a better stability match.

Honest trade-offs

150 per tin is the standard for .25 cal hunting pellets — you don’t shoot hunting pellets in volume, you carry 20 in a pouch and the tin lasts a long time.

Less accurate than JSB Exact King at 50+ yards. Hollow points lose some BC compared to true domes. For hunting under 40 yards this is fine; for paper at 75 yards, switch back to domed.

Heavier means more drop. 28.24gr drops noticeably more at distance than the standard 25.39gr King. Range-find your shots and hold accordingly.
