The Hunt & Live take
Why this rifle earns the pick
The AR2079 is the QB79 with a target stock — same proven, accurate bolt-action platform, but configured for biathlon-style competition with a properly-fitting target stock, fully adjustable diopter sights, and a two-stage adjustable trigger.
At 495 fps, this is sub-500 fps Canadian-compliant out of the box (no PAL required). About 200 shots per fill from the 13ci HPA tank, which makes a single fill enough for a full afternoon at the range.
The platform itself is decades old and proven — Beeman has been selling the QB79 family for years with broad community support and a strong reputation for accuracy.
What it pairs with
This is a target rifle — pair accordingly:
- Sights: the included diopter rear and globe front are already match-grade. No need for an optical scope unless you’re transitioning to scope-class events
- Pellets: premium match-grade .22 pellets — H&N Match Heavy, JSB Match Diabolo
- HPA tank: opt for the 13 ci tank + 800 psi regulator at checkout if you don’t already own one
Honest trade-offs
Right-handed only. Per the partner: “the stocks are made for right handers, and don’t work well left handed unfortunately.” This is a real constraint — there’s no left-handed AR2079.
Single-shot. Not for plinking, not for pest control. This is a focused target/biathlon rifle.
HPA tank not included as standard. Without the tank or regulator, the rifle can’t operate. Make sure you add the tank option at checkout if you don’t already have HPA capability.
Out of stock at time of writing. Email Wes for restock ETA.
Old platform, but proven. Some buyers may want a more modern target rifle (the MAT300 is the Snowpeak modern equivalent at a similar price). The AR2079 trades modern aesthetics for proven accuracy and a longer parts/repair pipeline.
