The Hunt & Live take

Why this rifle earns the pick

The Lynx Gen 3 is the rifle we built our Perfect PCP Starter Kit around — and after a year of recommending it, the reasons hold up. The 130cc air cylinder is the upgrade over the original Stormrider that turned this platform from a fun-but-thirsty plinker into a genuinely usable hunting rifle. With the regulator installed at the factory, you get consistent velocity across a real number of shots per fill (60-80 in .22 at hunting power) without the rifle’s price climbing into the $800+ category.

The verified buyer review on the partner’s page sums it up: “I had original PR900W but the 495 fps. This high power regulated model is so accurate. Powerful, wee bit noisy and now has larger 130cc tank. New magazine are so much better too.” The original PR900W was a budget classic; the Gen 3 Lynx is the same platform raised to a serious tier without raising the price proportionally.

What it pairs with

This is the starter PCP the rest of our PCP database is built around:

Caliber choice

  • .22 — the universal hunting and pest control caliber. Most pellet selection, most affordable to shoot, most experience in the airgun community. Pick this unless you have a specific reason not to.
  • .25 — more energy per shot, slightly more drop. The choice if you’re hunting larger pests (raccoons, marmots) at extended range, or if you want the platform stretched for slug shooting.

Stock choice

  • Wood — traditional aesthetic, slightly heavier, the look most experienced PCP shooters prefer
  • Synthetic — lighter, less affected by humidity, more weather-tolerant for field carry

Both are the same rifle inside — pick by feel and use case.

Honest trade-offs

The Lynx is loud. It’s regulated and powerful, but unsuppressed. For a backyard rifle this matters — neighbors will notice. The partner offers a muzzle brake at checkout (Canadian customers); moderators are USA-only because of Canadian law. If quiet matters, a moderator is the only solution and that’s only an option for US buyers.

21 orders is a small sample. The 100% positive rating is encouraging but small-N. The underlying platform (the PR900W/Stormrider) has thousands of buyers globally and a strong track record; the Gen 3 builds on that proven design.

Canadian PAL required. This rifle ships only to PAL-holders in Canada (18+). Email your PAL photo to support@airgunarcheryfun.ca after purchase. US buyers don’t need a license.
