Quick take
Most-ordered Nielsen .30 slug at the partner — 19 orders, 100% positive. At 43.8 grains it's the lightest .30 slug Nielsen makes — which still requires a 60+ ft-lb rifle to drive cleanly. Newest production from Nielsen's high-speed swaging machine, soft lead for controlled expansion, hollow point nose and dish base. BC 0.105 — meaningfully better than .22 or .25 slug BC, which is why .30 slugs are the long-range / big-game extreme. Currently out of stock.

The Hunt & Live take
Why this slug earns the pick
.30 caliber is the long-range / big-game extreme of the airgun world — at the partner’s catalog only 4 Nielsen and 1 JTS slug SKUs exist in this caliber, and the rifles that can shoot them are equally rare. The win, when you commit to it, is real: a 43.8gr .30 slug at BC 0.105 is roughly equivalent to a .22 LR cartridge’s downrange ballistics, with a flat trajectory to 75 yards and stable wind performance well past 100.
The 43.8 is the lightest .30 Nielsen makes — and that matters because even a 60 ft-lb .30 PCP is at its lower limit pushing a 43.8gr slug at 800fps. Step up to the 47.2gr or 49.5gr and you need 70+ ft-lbs to keep velocity in the useful band.
Nielsen’s catalog note that this is “newest slugs from high-speed machine” tells you it’s a current-production swaged design — softer lead for controlled expansion on hit (hunting), dish base for stability, true HP for terminal performance. It’s the entry-level hunting slug for the .30 platform.
What rifles it pairs with
- Snowpeak Max 1 .30 (slug-rated, 60+ ft-lbs) — the most accessible Canadian-import .30 slug platform
- AEA Challenger / Zeus .30 (slug-rated, 70+ ft-lbs) — purpose-built big-bore platforms
- FX Impact .30 / Crown .30 (slug-rated, configurable to 90+ ft-lbs) — the precision premium home
- JTS Airacuda PRS Max .30 if available in your import channel
Will not work with: any sub-50 ft-lb .30 (insufficient power), any pellet-barrel .30 (pellet only).
Twist rate / barrel match
1:18 twist or faster, and a serious power floor — minimum 55-60 ft-lbs to drive a 43.8gr to 800fps. Below that velocity the slug is plinking range only.
Head diameter .300 is the .30 slug standard. Most modern slug-rated .30 barrels are bored .300-.302 with a preferred slug fit at .299-.300. Verify your barrel’s chamber spec or, if buying first-time, start with the .300 Nielsen.
This is the rare slug where rifle availability is the bigger gate than barrel rating — slug-rated .30 PCPs are themselves a small market. Confirm your rifle is in that subset before ordering ammo.
Honest trade-offs
Currently out of stock. All four .30 Nielsen SKUs cycle in and out of stock at the partner — buy when available.
Power-class dependent. At 55 ft-lbs the 43.8 is marginal; at 60+ ft-lbs it’s in the sweet spot; at 80+ ft-lbs the heavier 47.2gr or 49.5gr Nielsen deliver more downrange energy.
Small box (225 ct) at premium per-slug cost. .30 slug shooting is not high-volume — a box typically lasts months. Stock multiple boxes when in stock to weather restock cycles.
Cross-border shipping — 6-20 business days plus customs. .30 slug orders are heavy; expect higher shipping cost vs. .22 or .25.
