In Puerto Rico, Zenaida Doves are most active during the early morning and late afternoon hours when the sun is not directly overhead. During these periods, doves tend to forage for food and engage in courtship displays. To capitalize on this behavior, hunters should plan their outings around these times, typically between 4:00 AM and 9:00 AM, and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Optimal Wind Conditions

While doves can fly in a range of wind conditions, they are most comfortable in light to moderate winds of 5-15 mph. In Puerto Rico, doves are often most active in areas with gentle breezes that allow them to fly and forage with ease. Winds of 15-20 mph can make it difficult for doves to fly and for hunters to accurately shoot. In such conditions, hunters may want to consider seeking sheltered areas or adjusting their shooting technique to compensate for wind drift.

Temperature and Humidity Factors

Zenaida Doves are adapted to warm, humid environments, and temperatures between 72°F and 85°F (22°C to 30°C) are ideal for hunting. During periods of high temperature and humidity, doves may seek shade and become less active, making them more challenging to hunt. In such conditions, hunters may want to focus on areas with shade, such as near trees or under power lines, and use more subtle calling techniques to attract doves.
