To register for a hunter safety course in Ohio, you can visit the ODNR’s website at wildohio.gov and click on the “Hunter Education” tab. From there, you can search for a course near you and register online. Make sure to choose a course that meets the requirements for your age and residency status. If you prefer to register by phone, you can call the ODNR’s hunter education office at (614) 644-2230. Be prepared to provide your name, address, and birthdate when registering.

Course Requirements

Before attending the course, you will need to complete a 10-question online pre-course that covers basic hunting laws and safety information. This pre-course must be completed at least 48 hours prior to the start of the in-person course. On the first day of the course, you will need to bring a copy of your completion certificate, as well as a photo ID. Dress comfortably and bring snacks and water, as the course can be physically demanding. The course will cover topics such as firearms safety, hunting laws, and wildlife management.

What to Expect

During the course, you will participate in both classroom and field instruction. The classroom portion will cover essential topics such as hunting laws, ethics, and wildlife management.
