Start with a series of short, high-pitched calls, then gradually increase the pitch and volume to get the birds to commit. Use a diaphragm call or a mouth call to create the most realistic sound possible.

Setting Up the Perfect Hunting Spot

When setting up your decoy spread, look for areas with shallow water, such as potholes, sloughs, or marshy edges. These areas attract pintails looking for food and shelter. Use the sun to your advantage by setting up your decoys in a spot where the birds will have to fly directly into the sun to reach their perceived safety zone. This will make it easier for them to spot your decoys and commit to landing.
