Reducing Panic and Hyperventilation

If the victim is experiencing hyperventilation, encourage them to breathe slowly and deeply through their nose, counting each breath out loud (e.g., inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds). This technique can help slow down their heart rate and reduce panic.

Prioritizing Medical Attention

In snake bite treatment, time is of the essence. A calm victim allows the first aider to think clearly and prioritize medical attention. This includes administering first aid, such as immobilizing the affected limb, and seeking medical help promptly. The sooner the victim receives medical attention, the better the chances of effective treatment and a positive outcome. In regions with accessible medical care, aim to reach a hospital within 30-60 minutes of the snake bite. In remote areas, seek assistance from a medical professional via phone or radio, and follow their guidance.

Immobilizing the Affected Limb

Once the victim is calm, immobilize the affected limb using a splint or a makeshift bandage. This helps prevent further venom spread and reduces the risk of infection. To create a makeshift splint, use a rigid object (such as a stick or a rigid plastic sheet) and secure it in place with a bandage or a belt. Ensure the splint is not too tight, as this can cut off circulation to the affected limb.
