They also often have a membrane that prevents water from penetrating, making them highly effective in wet conditions. Shell Considerations

While a waterproof shell is still a necessary component of rain gear, it’s often less effective than a lining for several reasons. Firstly, shells can be heavier and less breathable, making them more prone to overheating. Secondly, shells often require additional layers and accessories to function effectively, which can add bulk and weight. In contrast, a lining can be integrated into the clothing itself, providing a more streamlined and versatile solution.
