Choosing the Right Camouflage

When hunting Shovelers, it’s crucial to blend in with the surroundings. Wear camouflage clothing that matches the wetland environment, such as olive green or tan. A hat and gloves can also be useful for concealing your face and hands. Consider investing in a high-quality camouflage jacket or hunting suit that can withstand the elements.

Decoy Spread and Calling

A well-placed decoy spread can be an effective way to attract Shovelers. Use 5-7 decoys in a spread that simulates a small group of birds feeding or resting. Place the decoys in an area where the birds are likely to see them, such as near a feeding or loafing spot. To call in the birds, use a Shoveler call, such as a quacking or whistling sound, to mimic the sounds of a female Shoveler.
