Consider the type of hunting you’ll be doing and dress accordingly: for example, a waterproof and insulated parka is ideal for cold and wet weather.

Layering for Maximal Effectiveness

To get the most out of your waterproof clothing, remember to layer underneath. A base layer (top and bottom) made of moisture-wicking material, such as merino wool or synthetic fabrics, will help keep you dry and comfortable. On top of the base layer, add a mid-layer (insulating layer) of fleece or similar material to retain warmth. The waterproof outer layer should fit comfortably over the mid-layer. Avoid areas prone to flash flooding or landslides, and be aware of nearby bodies of water that may overflow during heavy rainfall. Wear sturdy boots with good traction to prevent slipping on wet surfaces.
