Users can verify Polaris’ position by checking its altitude above the horizon; in the northern hemisphere, Polaris typically reaches an altitude of 30 to 40 degrees above the horizon.

To use Polaris for navigation, align the Big Dipper’s tip with the North Star. From this position, you can determine north-south direction. By recognizing that Polaris is due north, you can easily orient your surroundings and plan your route.
