Choosing the Right Snowpack

Before you start building your quinzhee, look for a good snowpack. This is crucial because a quinzhee relies on the weight of the snow to hold its structure. A snowpack with a good balance of depth and weight is key. Aim for a spot with 2-3 feet of dense snow, as this will provide the necessary stability for your quinzhee.

Digging the Pit
