Creating a DIY Wallow

To create a DIY wallo, start by finding a spot with a natural water source, such as a spring or a seep. If no natural source is available, you can create a small pond or a watering hole. For water, you will need a pump or a hose, and a shallow container to hold the water. You will also need a shallow area, about 10-15 feet in diameter, and a source of mud. You can use a backhoe or a trenching shovel to create the shallow area and a shovel to dig a mud pit. For a small wallow, you will need about 2-3 cubic yards of mud.

Attracting Elk to the Wallow

To attract elk to the DIY wallo, you will need to create a mud scent that is similar to the scent of natural mud. You can do this by mixing water with mud and letting it sit for a few days. When the mixture has a strong scent, pour it into the wallow. You can also add some commercial attractants, such as elk urine or pheromones, to increase the scent. For a small wallow, you will need about 2-3 gallons of mud mixture. To create a strong scent, pour the mixture into the wallow in the morning and evening, when elk are most active.

Setting Up a Blind or Stand
