Compaction Frequency and Timing

Timing is crucial when compacting driveway gravel. Aim to compact the gravel immediately after its installation, preferably within the first few days, before heavy rainfall or vehicle traffic. The ideal temperature for compaction is between 50°F and 90°F (10°C and 32°C). Avoid compacting during periods of extreme heat or cold, as this can damage the gravel or surrounding pavement.

Compaction Tools and Options

Multiple tools can be used to compact driveway gravel, including plate compactors and roller compactors. For smaller driveways or more controlled environments, hand tampers or hand rammers are suitable alternatives.
