Building a Stable Foundation

For a quinzhee of moderate size (approximately 6 feet in diameter and 4 feet tall), use 10-12 sturdy branches (about 1 inch in diameter and 6 feet long) as the base frame. Place these branches at evenly spaced intervals, ensuring they are securely embedded in the snow and evenly weighted. This foundation will provide a stable platform for the quinzhee’s walls.

Temperature and Moisture Control
