Practice Makes Perfect

Practicing the Heimlich maneuver is crucial for mastering the technique. It’s recommended that you practice on a willing partner or a mannequin, ideally with a qualified instructor. With practice, you can develop the necessary force and technique to effectively dislodge an obstruction. As a general rule, the rescuer should aim to generate around 15-20 pounds of force per thrust, which is roughly equivalent to the force used to snap a pencil in half.
