Within this range, you’ll have ample time to assess the bird’s trajectory and make accurate shots. Breaking this range down further, 20-25 yards is suitable for shorter-barreled shotguns and smaller decoy spreads, while 25-30 yards is ideal for most dove hunting situations.

Decoy Spread and Distance
