Considering the safety risks associated with propane refrigeration in enclosed spaces, off-grid owners may opt for alternative refrigeration methods. Solar-powered electric refrigeration units, for instance, use photovoltaic panels to generate electricity for a compressor. These units often come with built-in ventilation systems and can be a safer, more reliable option for off-grid applications. Additionally, some owners may choose to install propane refrigeration in outdoor or semi-outdoor settings, like a garage or shed, where the risk of propane buildup is minimized.
