Prepper Assessment

This area features a mix of rural landscapes and a humid climate, with an annual mean temperature of 56.0°F and about 50 inches of rainfall per year. The growing season is suitable for a variety of crops, supported by USDA zone 8a. With 91% of the population being rural, the county offers space for self-sufficient living, though the terrain may vary. Access to water sources is likely adequate due to the humid classification, but specific local water availability should be assessed.

Natural hazards present some risks, including strong winds (FEMA rank 79) and a significant likelihood of tornadoes (rank 76). Ice storms (rank 65) and earthquakes (rank 61) also pose potential challenges. The county's population density is relatively high at 98.2 people per square mile, and with a violence percentile of 60/100, safety concerns may arise. Additionally, while the median home price is $187,400, it's important to consider ongoing costs and the potential for economic fluctuations.

Meade County may be a good fit for individuals or families seeking a rural lifestyle with access to community resources, especially those who can manage the risks of natural hazards. Those comfortable with a moderate cost of living and willing to invest in self-sufficiency may thrive here. However, individuals looking for complete isolation or those concerned about safety in denser areas might find the county less suitable for their needs.
