Prepper Assessment

Living in this area offers a rural lifestyle with a low population density of 7.2 people per square mile, ideal for those seeking solitude. The climate is characterized by an annual mean temperature of 56.2°F and 47.7 inches of rainfall, providing a humid environment suitable for diverse agriculture. The USDA zone 8a allows for a variety of crops, while the growing season supports both summer and winter gardening, although the cold wave risk at FEMA rank 93 may pose challenges during winter months.

Natural hazards include a high risk of cold waves (FEMA rank 93) and landslides (rank 81), which could affect infrastructure and safety. The area has a relatively high violence percentile at 73/100, indicating potential safety concerns. While the median home price of $141,600 is affordable compared to many regions, the 37% broadband subscription rate may limit access to information and communication, which could be a disadvantage for remote work or online education.

This county is best suited for individuals or families who value a quiet, rural lifestyle and have the skills to manage self-sufficient living despite potential hazards. Those who thrive here will likely be adept at gardening, animal husbandry, and emergency preparedness. However, individuals reliant on modern conveniences or seeking urban amenities may find the remoteness and limited connectivity challenging, making it a less favorable option for them.
