Prepper Assessment

Living in this area offers a predominantly rural lifestyle with a low population density of 3.9 people per square mile, allowing for ample space and privacy. The climate features an annual mean temperature of 48.1°F and 24.5 inches of rainfall, supporting a growing season suitable for various crops in USDA zone 7a. However, the cold winters, with lows averaging 11.7°F, can limit year-round outdoor activities and crop production.

Natural hazards present notable risks, with cold waves ranked 76 and wildfires at 70 on the FEMA scale. The area also experiences winter weather challenges, including ice storms and drought, which can impact self-sufficient living. While the violence percentile is moderate at 54, the general rural remoteness may pose challenges for emergency services and access to resources. The median home price of $109,100 is relatively affordable, but the broadband subscription rate at 59% indicates limited connectivity.

This county may appeal to those seeking a quiet, rural lifestyle with a focus on self-sufficiency, particularly individuals and families comfortable with agricultural practices and cold-weather living. However, it may not suit those who rely heavily on modern conveniences or require robust internet access. The potential for cold weather and natural hazards could be dealbreakers for some, while the spaciousness and affordability could be hidden gems for others.
