Prepper Assessment

Living in this area offers a predominantly rural lifestyle with a population density of 9.3 people per square mile, which allows for ample space and privacy. The climate features an annual mean temperature of 60.5°F and an average rainfall of 16 inches per year, placing it in USDA zone 8b, suitable for a variety of crops. However, the semi-arid classification indicates that water resources may be limited, impacting self-sufficient living and gardening efforts.

Natural hazards are a significant consideration, with drought ranked at 96 and hail at 90 on FEMA's scale, indicating high risk. Wildfire risk is also notable at rank 86, which could threaten property and safety. Although the area has a violence percentile of 51, suggesting it is relatively average in safety, the cost of living is manageable, with a median home price of $167,900 and a property tax rate of 1.04%.

This county may suit individuals or families looking for a quiet, rural environment with the ability to engage in farming or homesteading, provided they are prepared for water management and natural hazards. Those who thrive here will likely be self-sufficient and adaptable. However, individuals seeking urban amenities or extensive community resources may find the limitations in broadband access (65% subscription) and the risks from natural hazards to be dealbreakers.
